City:
Re-identifying
Hong Kong for the 21st Century
|

|
Since 1997, Hong Kong’s reunification with China has created a new
model of social and economic structure for this city. Such identity
and character modification has caused alienation amongst
communities, challenging and questioning Hong Kong’s existing living
environment and traditional living culture.
The objective of this
thesis is to promote a new community in Hong Kong that helps
re-identify and reposition this city for this new era. The attempt
is to suggest design solutions for a new community on the
3.5-kilometer-by-250-meter runway of Hong Kong’s former Kai Tak
Airport, that helps redevelop close connections between people in a
community, and furthermore re-identifies the relationship between
the city and the people.
